MUMBAI: The end of the ten-day Ganesh festival witnessed over 35,000 idols of the elephant-headed deity being immersed at various sea fronts across the city amidst tight security, police said.
A civic body spokesperson said that immersions continued in the wee hours today and 35,367 idols had been immersed till midnight.
Immersed idols included 3,831 community idols and 31,736 of those installed at homes, he said.
Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the most famous idols in the city was immersed at the Girgaum beach in South Mumbai at around 0950 hours this morning, police said, adding that some immersions were still on at other seafronts.
