Last year Conde Nast Traveller called this region one of the best travel spots in the country. Karaikudi, is the capital and one among the 74 villages of Chettinad in Shivaganga district in Tamil Nadu. Home to the Nattukottai Chettiars, a prosperous banking and business community, the region has acquired fame in South East Asia for its culinary delicacies."
Farm Stay at Nilgiris, Madhumalai Wild Life Sanctuary
"This mountain range was named the Nilgiris of the blue mountains because of the Neelakurinji, a flower that blooms only once in 12 years and covers the entire hills and valley in various shades of blue. Bordering Kerala and Karnataka but located in Tamil Nadu, the Nilgiri district abounds in the old world charm.
Populated by the hospitable Badaga tribe who speak a lingo that is a mix of Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam, it was once called the ‘queen of all hill stations’ by Jawaharlal Nehru. With forests, streams, plains and valleys, the district is a veritable store house of natural beauty.
The breathtaking Ketti, said to be the world’s widest valley, is a must visit, as are the tea gardens of Coonoor. One can also visit and stay at the Madumalai Wild Life Sanctuary in the Nilgiri Biosphere."
