Ugly (Ranvir Shorey) is a loser. He's grown up, at least till a certain age, like a girl (I'm not certain what the makers are trying to say is worse – someone growing up like the other sex, or like a 'girl').

Anyways, once he does realise he's a guy, he tries all he can to get a woman, but something always goes awry – either his mom calls, shouting at him to meet 'Worli aunty'; or he farts at the wrong moment, which he refers to as De Boo (Boo as in smell in Hindi, De as in give). It's an 'intelligent' film, you know. Get the intelligent toilet joke, fool!

Pagli. Well, Pagli (Mallika Sherawat) is just a weirdo. Having lost her boyfriend, she's on a drinking binge. And when she's not getting 'talli', she's scolding young men for not letting old ones sit in a train! It's another thing that she pukes on the same old man later.

There's also some mention of her doing 'social service', but it's all done with a view to create humour, like everything else in the film. The entire story has been narrated by Ugly (he's the harassed lover telling the more harassed audience what it is that harasses him). You get the picture.

The film is an obvious follow-up to the banner's earlier (and probably only) hit 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects'. Take the unpredictable phataka (Sherawat) and put her against an unconventional hero (Rahul Bose earlier, Shorey now) and voila – there's your formula! It's a formula that worked for the producers once and so they try it once again.
They also try desperately to make their presence felt, quite literally. In one scene, Ugly goes selling a script to Yash Ram studios (I'm not kidding!) and the office is strewn with posters of films produced earlier by the banner. All of them were turkeys at the box office. I'm not sure if the guy acting as the script approver – bald and French bearded – was an impersonation of the banner's head himself, but what I am not sure about I won't assume!

What I am sure about is that the film, to a large extent, does not work. Yes, there are funny moments – thankfully to the talented Mr Shorey – and a few interesting dialogues. Sherawat isn't bad at all. Give her a less constantly-getting-on-your-nerves character, and she could actually make an impact.

The songs can all be done away with. The '99 slaps', which the producers have already warned the audience about, get quite boring by the time the count reaches 9. It's just not funny after a point, I tell you.

Enough talk of Hindi filmmakers trying to be different! Let's have some good films now, folks.
