Shoe Artists

Give them a worn out shoe and they will transform it to a work of art. Give them a few hours and they will transform your brand new sneakers into a reflection of your personality. They are artists, and their canvas is the humble shoe. Meet Bandra-based Samrit Shah and Breach Candy resident Himay Kumbhani, as they put their most creative foot forward.

It is said that you should never underestimate the power of boredom, especially in inspiring creativity. Words that ring true for this eclectic duo. “It all started off one afternoon when I had nothing to do. I decided to mess around with my sneakers, sand wore them to a New Years’ party soon after. Everyone loved them, which was when I realised that I had stumbled onto something big!” smiles Shah. He was soon joined by Kumbhani, as they experimented with form and design. The rest, quite obviously, is history. “We have been designing shoes for about four months now,” reveals Kumbhani.

The boys’ designs are largely inspired by tattoos and tribal artwork.
