Ending Daylight Saving Time
The countries in the northern and southern hemisphere are known for practicing daylight time saving. To have longer warmer days, they adjust their clocks. During the summer, the clock is set one hour forward from the starting time and set back during the fall. It starts in March-April in the southern hemisphere countries and ends in September-November in the countries in The Northern Hemisphere. It runs between September-November in the Southern Hemisphere. This practice has been used in the U.S since the First World War as a trick to conserve energy.
Shifting the summer daylight by this practice is seen as one of its advantages. Since people are not using lights in the evenings, the energy is saved. Accidents are also reduced since people are driving in daylight during the evenings. Since people are active during the evening hours after work, they can take the advantage of the evening daylight.
People have been practicing the daylight saving time for a long time. With many moves to end Day Light Saving Time, the practice is seen a s irrelevant today. This is because it is argued that the practice is foolish since people can now use electricity to extend the lighting. There are also some more efficient ways to use energy to encourage energy saving. This practice has also been associated with some health complications such as body melanin.
Several petitions have been there to end daylight saving time with many reasons from the petitioners. Ending daylight saving will have people relieved off the burden of adjusting clocks every now and then. The United States’ time zones are also going to be reduced from four to two. This will put some states such as Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and Dallas in the same time zone.
People will therefore need not to adjust time to fit the time zones while operating business or travelling in these states. The central time zone is also going to be the same. This will do away with some annoying television schedules. Such schedules that state “5:30 PM/ 4:30 Central”. The time difference for east coasts will also shift from three hour to two hours. In terms of travelling and commencing, people will b e amble to schedule their time properly.
In conclusion, daylight time saving has been used for some benefits for a long period of time. However, it is also seen to have the negative side of it. Ending the daylight saving time may have some more benefits as well. The consideration of the idea of abolishing daylight saving time by the government is worth pursuing.
